To Hail With It

Hail Happens

Ah…summers in Colorado. Picture this: Long road trips across the state, bluebird mornings and pink sunsets, and thunderstorms. Yes, that’s right, thunderstorms. Colorado is the queen of the summer thunderstorm.

While lightning can be a spoiler for most Colorado outdoor fun, these severe thunderstorms can also be a precursor to hail. Colorado’s hail season ranges from mid-April to mid-August, right when you’re traveling from campground to campground. Here on the Western Slope, our chances of severe thunderstorms are usually centered around the high country. Yet, severe thunderstorms can happen anywhere in the area, and they are capable of producing frozen rain.

Although this may be true, you’re most likely to be exposed to hail damage on the Front Range. In fact, Colorado’s Front Range is called “Hail Valley,” and it receives some of the largest hail pellets in North America. Even earlier this week, the residents of Manitou Springs were shoveling hail from their driveways! There’s nothing like a hailstorm of biblical proportions to make us cringe for the exterior of our beloved vehicles.

Is My Hail Damage Covered?

Hail damage can be frustrating. Typically, hail damage occurs on the roof and hood of your vehicle. At first, you may panic about the value of your vehicle. Dent Doctor is here to put your mind at ease. We use a Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) method that leaves your car looking better than before. The next question you may ask yourself is, “How am I going to pay for this?”

First, it’s important to assess the amount of damage. Hailstorms can leave everything from minor dings to heavy dents. Remember, the larger the hailstone, the greater the damage. Plus, it only takes a hailstone the size of a quarter to produce some serious damage to your vehicle. And yes, your car can be totaled from hail damage. Next, call your insurance company to verify your policy. If you paid for comprehensive coverage, then your insurance will likely cover hail damage. However, if you only purchased liability insurance, you’ll be footing the bill on your own.
